Eckart Wintzen R.I.P.

L1133727.jpg, originally uploaded by Guido van Nispen.

I have just been reading that Eckart Wintzen (on the left of the photo) died very recently of a heart attack. Eckart Wintzen was 68 years old. Eckart was a very unique thinker, non-conformist and businessman. He founded BSO which was later bought by Phillips electronics. Eckart has a dutch wikipedia page but not an english one. So I ran the page through Google translate and it did a pretty good job. His last big project (IMHO) was the Eyecatcher technology, but in his BSO period he was a huge proponent of the cell philosophy which was that BSO consisted of autonomous units. [See: Explanation of Cell philosophy] (Another dutch wikipedia page put through google translate).

Thanks to Guido vn Nispen for the use of this photo under the creative commons license,

Eckart was a very special person to me. Many years ago he mentored/directed me with certain steps in my career.
I remember our first meeting at his mothers kitchen table in the Hague. Born on the same day but in a different year I have spoken de words "gefeliciteerd" (congratulations)with your birthday
many times. No longer! Rest in peace my friend.
