Adding Google calendars to Google maps
Over at http://www.crowley.nl/gmaps-ok.html I have created a Google map with embedded calendar events. I had seen a post at the google earth blog showing this working in Google earth when I realised that this could be done in Google maps as well.
It is fabulous that you can combine the two. If you have a festival in a city you could combine an event from a google calendar and place it within a balloon on a google map. Even for rock bands touring it can be used. With google calendar you can share a whole calendar, not just evens. This way fans could see where the band is playing for a whole tour.
Quick how to:
Copy and paste the html code and change the coordinates. On this map there are 3 sets. One for the map itself and 2 for each location. You can get your own coordinates by using google map, finding your location and clicking on the link to this page. Now you can copy and paste the coordinates out of the url.
Next create a calendar and make it public. In the settings there is a link to public xml, which is the xml link which you may publish tou your calendar. This is though of no use when creating a html page. Go to http://www.google.com/googlecalendar/event_publisher_guide.html#public. At the bottom of the page is a form which will translate the xml into a html link. This link is used to publish your entire google calendar. If you just want to publish an event copy and paste the link I have in my webpage and adjust the times and message of the event.
You are free to use this as you like. I provide no warrenties what so ever. I would appreciate a link back here though.
